There is one word uttered more than anything else at the end of a persons life. That word is almost never the name of their partner or their children. That word is “Mum”.
Palliative doctors describe it like this, as a body shuts down, the brain seems to return to the first source of comfort. The persons earlies voice, the safety nervous system returns to safety.
In almost very culture, in every language, the answer is the same. The first person we ever knew is the last one we ever asked for.
You don’t have to be the perfect mum or or have it altogether, you just have to be there.
As it stands I have been robbed of being that comfort to someone.
Is it no wonder why the 3 of us haven’t thrived?
